Introducing The Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life is one of the most common, valuable, informative and useful personal growth tools that coaches use. It is simple yet profoundly broad in its scope.
Once you get a feel for The Wheel of Life you can use it as often as you like.
Gillian uses it in a number of different ways to assess where you are now and where to focus attention in the work you do together.
Here’s how it works:
A circle, representing the whole of your life, is divided into eight wedges.
There is nothing exclusive about these eight wedges, specifically, and you’ll see later on that you can add more wedges or re-define them to suit your needs.
The eight named for you here cover a huge range of life experience, so they provide an excellent starting point.
Think of a completed Wheel of Life as a snapshot with a time/date stamp on it. As you go to work on it, approach it as much as possible with a mindset of evaluation rather than judgment. That way it is more certain to be an accurate reflection of your Life.
The Wheel is meant to reflect a snapshot that reflects clear assessment, not emotional likes or dislikes. You probably won’t be able to filter all emotion out of your evaluations, just be as honest with yourself as you can and notice what issues and feelings skew your assessment.
